Putumayo Kids, Instrumental Dreamland Review



Putumayo Kids has a mission to introduce children to different cultures around the world through music. They currently have 2 main series--Playland (upbeat music perfect for dance & playtime) and Dreamland (soft and melodic music that soothes and relaxes). I found the music on Instrumental Dreamland to be very calming and soothing. There are many days that I need a bit of relaxation as much as my 4 year old does. I find it to be great at the end of the day or during some quiet time during the day!  We actually played it in the evening while we were on vacation this past weekend, it really seemed to help my child wind down from all the excitement of the day and the promise of the next. 

Putumayo Kids', Instrumental Dreamland, is a wonderful way to introduce children to music from around the world while soothing them, perfect as their bedtime lullaby or anytime they need a little quite time.

My husband and I grew up listening to and still love STYX! We loved seeing a live performance on the STYX The Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight LIVE and loved reminiscing about all the memories we have with these songs. 

STYX The Grand Illusion/Pieces of Eight LIVE would make a wonderful addition for anyone who enjoys STYX! It isn't often these days you can catch them in concert, they are currently on tour though, now you can watch a concert on DVD or Blu-ray anytime you wish!

Finlandia's Cheese Reveiw

 
 
Warmer weather is right around the corner and so is the start of grilling season and hanging out with friends and family on the patio or deck, and of course, that means delicious food. In my family, one ingredient required at every party is cheese! It can be as an appetizer/snack, on sandwiches or burgers or mixed into a casserole or salad, if there is a gathering, you can guarantee there is cheese involved. One of my favorite brands of cheese is Finlandia, their Lacey Swiss is a big favorite because not only does it taste great but it allows me to have my cheese and still fit into my jeans afterward!

Finlandia's entire line is all-natural, lactose-free and hormone-free with some great options that are low in fat and sodium. They offer high quality, highly flavorful varieties including Swiss, Light Swiss, Havarti, Muenster, Double Gloucester and Gouda and they pair perfectly with whatever you are putting on your plate! With over 100 years of master cheese making experience, Finlandia knows how to make distinctly delicious cheeses with nutty and robust flavors!  Their newest cheese, the Finlandia Lacey Swiss Cheese is perfect for those watching their health and waistline. It contains 24% less fat and lower in sodium than traditional Swiss cheese. It has been aged for over 60 days, so the flavor is so authentic that it is difficult to tell that it is actually low fat--I honestly couldn't tell.

Chef Ariane Duarte of Bravo’s Top Chef and owner/executive chef of the acclaimed CulinAriane restaurant in Montclair, NJ, shared some recipes that would make perfect options for those deck parties, of course using Finlandia Cheese. Enjoy!

Sublime Submarine Sandwich
 Serves 4
 
¼ lb Ham, sliced
¼ lb Salami, sliced
8 slices Finlandia Swiss cheese
1 c lettuce, shredded
2 tomatoes, thinly sliced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
2 tsp dry oregano
¼ c extra virgin olive oil
¼ c red wine vinegar
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp granulated onion
S & P
French baguette
 
Create a marinade by combining the lettuce, tomato, onion, dry oregano, vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder and olive oil in a bowl.  Season with s&p.  Slice the baguette in half lengthwise.  Remove some of the inner bread.  Drizzle some of the dressing (minus lettuce and tomato) onto each half of the bread.  Layer the ham, salami and Finlandia Swiss cheese and top it with the marinated vegetables.  Slice in 4 sections and serve.
 
 
Marinated Flank Steak, Grilled Scallion and Finlandia Havarti Sandwich
 Serves 4
 
½ lb flank steak
¼ c soy sauce
¼ c teriyaki glaze
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
8 scallions
8 slices Finlandia Havarti cheese
2 Tbsp mayonnaise
8 slices country white bread
 
Combine the soy sauce, teriyaki sauce and red pepper flakes in a bowl.  Add the flank steak and marinate for 2-8 hours.  Preheat grill.  Place the flank steak on the grill and grill for 5 minutes.  Turn over and grill for 5 more minutes, depending on thickness of steak.  Remove from the grill and allow to rest for 5 minutes.  While the steak is resting, place the scallions on the grill and cook for 3-4 minutes per side.  Remove them from grill, chop and combine with mayonnaise.  Slice the flank steak thinly on the bias.  Spread scallion mayo on bread and top with the flank steak and Finlandia Havarti cheese. 
 
 
Classic Cuban Pork Sandwich
Serves 4
 
¼ lb peppered ham, sliced
¼ lb cooked pork loin, thinly sliced
8 slices Finlandia Gouda cheese
¼ c grainy mustard
1/2 c dill pickles, sliced
1 Cuban baguette
 
Slice the baguette in half lengthwise.  Spread the grainy mustard on both sides of the bread.  On the bottom half of the baguette, layer the ham, pork, Finlandia Gouda cheese and pickles.  Cover with other half of bread; slice in 4 equal sections.
 
 
 
Turkey and Finlandia Lacey Swiss Avocado BLT

Serves 2
 
4 Slices 7 Grain Bread
4 oz sliced roasted turkey breast
6 Slices Finlandia Lacey Swiss
4 pieces turkey bacon (cooked according to package)
1 tomato, sliced
½ Avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced
Green Leaf lettuce, such as Romaine
Light Mayonnaise
 
Spread mayo on all slices of grain bread. On two of the slices, place lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado, turkey and top with Finlandia Lacey Swiss. Top with remaining 2 slices. Cut in half.

Serve with your favorite chips and pickles. Enjoy! 

 
Finlandia Gloucester Burger with Russian Dressing

Serves 6
 
2 lb ground chuck
1oz (package) onion soup mix
1 egg beaten
2t Worcestershire sauce
2t hot sauce
3/4c rolled oats
1/4t black pepper
12 slices Finlandia Double Gloucester
6 burger buns of your choice
2T melted butter
 
Mix first 5 ingredients all together. Form into 6 patties. Pressing your thumb print into each patty after they are formed.  Heat grill to med-high and place patties on grill. Grill on one side for about 7 minutes and flip once for another 7 minutes or until the temperature you desire. Add 2 slices of Finlandia cheese to each burger and allow to melt, while brushing buns with butter. Then place the buns on the grill butter side down for about 30 seconds, just enough to warm.  Smear some Russian dressing on bun, next add the burger and if you like lettuce, tomato and onion and pickles.
 
 
Russian Dressing
1/2c mayo
1/3c ketchup
1T red wine vinegar
1T grated onion
1Tchopped parsley
Mix all together. Refrigerate.
 
 
 
Jumpin’ Turkey Finlandia Swiss Burgers

 Serves 6
 
2 lbs Ground Turkey
1 or 2 jalapeño peppers, small dice (depending on how much heat you like)
½ c chopped cilantro
1T ground cumin
1t chopped garlic
1 small onion, diced
Salt & pepper
12 slices Finlandia Swiss or Light Swiss Cheese
6 burger buns of your choice
 
In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Divide equally into 6 balls. Form into patties and place on grill. Grill on high heat - 4 minutes on 1 side, then turn and finish for about 3 to 4 minutes on the other. Add two slices of Finlandia Swiss and let melt. Then, place on your favorite bun with your favorite accompaniments.

Many of us remember having to take the SAT prior to acceptance to college and how overwhelming and frightening it was preparing for it. Today those SAT scores are even more important for high school students due to the competitiveness of getting into their preferred college. Which means doing whatever it takes to fully prepare for taking the test!

It really seemed to walk one through just how they needed to breakdown the essay prompt and put together a perfectly blended essay that will thrill a College board. The Phantom of the Opera on the Royal Albert Hall

 The longest running Broadway Musical of all time, Andrew Lloyd Weber's The Phantom of the Opera celebrates 25 years with a unique and spectacular production on one of the world's most legendary stages, the Royal Albert Hall, and the event was captured on film and is now available for you on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Download and On Demand from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall marks the first time a live performance has been made available for home viewing--making it a must have for Phantom fans, like me!
Many of us know the basic story-line of The Phantom of the Opera, but if not or if you need a refresher, here is the synopsis from the press release I received:

Lurking beneath the glamour and spectacle of the Paris Opera House, the horribly disfigured Phantom, once a promising musician, now terrorizes the opera company. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the Phantom is drawn to the beautiful ingenue Christine Daae and begins coaching her secretly, as a tragic romance unfolds between the unlikely pair. 

Here is the synopsis of this dazzling and spectacular rendition of this classic Broadway Musical, The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall, from the back of the Blu-ray case:

The Phantom of the Opera is my all time favorite Broadway musical, I like musicals in general, but I absolutely love The Phantom of the Opera. I have been able to watch the live production a few times over the years when it was at the Fox Theater in St Louis. The music is enchanting, the story-line intriguing. There are so many dramatic effects throughout that I have never gotten bored of watching it, on stage or on film. Seeing the re-creation of The Phantom of the Opera on the Royal Albert Hall stage is absolutely awe-inspiring for me, I only wish I had been there to see it in person, but at least on Blu-ray I can experience the "live" production over and over! They did a great job with the filming, allowing to almost feel like you are at the live show.

If you are fan of The Phantom of the Opera like I am, you will love seeing this amazing rendition, The Phantom of the Opera on the Royal Albert Hall on blu-ray, DVD, Digital Download or On Demand. 

Just a heads up for you "Phantom" fans, Andrew Lloyd Weber's spectacular follow-up to The Phantom of the Opera, Love Never Dies where the Phantom and Christine are reunited after 10 years apart in the turn-of-century New York City, will be released on Blu-ray and DVD for the first time ever this coming May!

Back in January I told you about a website called Mr. Chewy which is an online pet food retailer that also sells treats, supplies and more.  If you are a frequent reader of my site then you probably are aware that I have 3 dogs.  As you can imagine we go through a lot of dog food and the cost adds up.  We also want to make sure our dogs are getting good quality food so they stay happy and healthy.

Thanks to Mr. Chewy I was just introduced to dog food made by Champion Petfoods called Orijen.  Champion Petfoods is a Canadian company that prides itself on high quality.  Here is the description of the Orijen food from the Mr. Chewy website:

My dogs have been eating another dry dog food exclusively for the past several years, so I was not sure how they would take to the new Orijen food.  All I can say is that this food is a big hit with my puppies.  All 3 of them took to it right away and have gone through the bag in a very short time.

Free Lowe's Build and Grow Clinic on Saturday, February 25th



Here is the second and final free Build and Grow clinic in February. 

On Saturday, February 25th the project is build a Race Car.  Get ready for the beginning of the NASCAR season with the Jimmie Johnson #48 car. The kit comes with stickers and rumblin' race car sound effects. 

You have to sign up for these classes, but the process is taken care of in three easy steps.

The classes run from 10am-11am. The first 50 kids that register and show up at the store by 10am will receive a kit, apron and goggles. The recommended age of the kids is 1st-5th grades.
