Friendships are vitally important to pretty much everyone, and sometimes we don't realize that friendships come in many forms, sometimes the most unlikely become friends! What a great way to children about treating everyone equally than through stories and pictures of unlikely duos who become best friends. If these duos can be buddies than anyone can be your friend regardless of any differences.
Jennifer S. Holland has taken her best-selling book, Unlikely Friendships, which stole the hearts of adults around the world, and created a three book series for children called, Unlikely Friendships for Kids (Workman, 2012). The 3 books in the series are:
Book 1: The Monkey and the Dove
Book 2: The Dog and the Piglet
Book 3: The Leopard and the Cow
Each of these 3 books is published in hardcover and in illustrated chapter book form, perfect for children ages 7+. Each of these books includes contains 5 true stories about 2 completely different animals who have bonded in the most unexpected ways and teach lessons of compassion, understanding, acceptance and even the natural order of predator vs prey in the wild. The stories are the same stories as in the original book but they are printed with larger print and using shorter sentences that make it easy for young minds and beginning and reluctant readers.
I remember reading the original book for adults, so I loved being able to share the stories with my son. I could tell that he loved every story. We loved that the animals found friends and helped each other out even though they were nothing alike. I am hoping he always remembers those stories and is able to take from them the ability to look at other of God's creatures with an open heart and compassion and acceptance. I highly recommend these books to all school-aged children, if they can't read them by themselves yet, they make perfect books to read to your younger children--that's what we did and my son LOVED them and so did I. The stories in the Unlikely Friendships for Kids books give me hope that more and more children can over look difference and become more accepting of others and their hearts more opens to various friendships.

Our 10lb dachshund and 120lb mastiff makes a pretty odd friendship when the dachshund cleans the mastiff's face and ears. I just have to make sure he doesn't sit on the little guy.

My dogs & cats have an unlikely friendship
I don't know anyone personally who have an unlikely friendship. On Oprah I saw a woman who forgave the man who murdered her daughter. She began writing to him in prison and then went to visit him. They're the most unlikely friends I've ever heard of.
Thanks for the giveaway!

An unlikely friendship that I can think of is when I was a teen we got a tiny teacup poodle. My dad did not want a pet at all, but the two of them ended become inseparable and best friends for over 15 years!

I don't know of any like these ones describe! The oddest I know would be our large German Shepard dog and our 12 pound little dog playing together. They have each other even though their sizes are so different.
