Mia and the Migoo, the latest film for the theatrical distributors of the Oscar-Nominated A Cat in Paris and The Secret of Kells, GKIDS along with French award-winning animation studio, Folimage, is now on DVD. This amazingly breathtaking film tells of the journey of a little girl, who overcomes her fears during the quest to find her father through 500,000 hand-painted frames of animation! This film is an amazing work of art, drawing from the influences of Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne and is Dove-Foundation Approved, meaning it is family friendly, plus it teaches children and families lessons along the way.
Here is the synopsis of Mia and the Migoo from the back of the DVD case:
In this breathtaking animated adventure, a wild-haired young girl named Mia sets off to rescue her father who has been trapped in a construction site landslide at a remote tropical lake. In the middle of the lake stands the ancient Tree of Life that is watched over by innocent forest spirits called the Migoo. Together, Mia and the Migoo join forces to find her father and protect the ancient tree.
You honestly cannot watch Mia and the Migoo, without appreciating the artistic talent that went into creating this film, especially when you realize that the frames are hand painted, rather than computer drafted. My 5 year old enjoyed watching it as well--he found it very humorous at times. The film features some very recognizable voices, including John DiMaggio, Whoopie Goldberg, Matthew Modine, Wallace Swan and James Woods. The story line is a bit dark at times, but my entire family enjoyed it and it can be hard to find films that we all enjoy and the artwork really is amazing!

I visited a section on the site that told about the cast, director, story line, producer, etc.
It's a nice story line. A little different since a girl is rescuing her father. Given the spirits I think my daughter would have lots a questions about what is going on and what they are doing. I'm surprised I haven't heard about it before given the names behind some of the characters.
I clicked on the girl on the raft and watched a clip for the movie. I love the animation. cwitherstine at zoominternet dot net
