Most of us understand the importance of giving our young children healthy nutrition from the very beginning, but in an era of GMO and artificial chemicals, health-conscious parents spend way too much time reading labels and combing the baby food shelves trying to determine which is the best for their baby. The latest research recommends a holistic and nutrient dense diet for infants and babies, and the book Super Nutrition for Babies: The Right Way to Feed Your Baby for Optimal Health (Fair Winds Press, 2012) by Katherine Erlich, MD and Kelly Genzlinger, CNC, CMTA, can help you weed through all the information and get you on the right foot when it comes to your baby's nutritional status.
Here is the synopsis of Super Nutrition for Babies: The Right Way to Feed Your Baby for Optimal Health taken from the back cover of the book:
The Most Nutritionally Protective Diet for Your Child
Nutrition and Proper feeding are never more critical than in your baby's formative first months and years. However, many well-known feeding recommendations and convenience-based baby foods don't foster optimal health and nutrition. Filled with sugar, preservatives, and chemically refined ingredients, they set your child up for allergies, ADHD, autism, diabetes, and developmental difficulties now---and later in life. There is a better way to feed your baby.
Based on the guidelines used at one of the largest holistic practices in the country and the latest science-verified nutritional recommendations, Super Nutrition for Babies provides recipes and information on all aspects of nutrition and feeding from when to introduce meat in your child's diet, to healthier alternatives to dairy and soy, getting processed "fake" foods out of your child's diet, and cutting hidden sugars. You'll also discover the best foods for every age and stage so your baby gets the healthiest nutrition to maximize her current and lifelong health, minimize illness and optimize important quality-of-life concerns such as sleep, digestion, behavior, and brain development.
Most anyone can see that, what the authors have coined the "3Cs" (Contemporary Chronic Childhood conditions) were practically unheard of in the past, so to me it seems quite possible that dietary changes/exposures could be linked to things such as childhood allergies, ADHD, autism, behavioral disorders, autoimmune conditions and more--poor dietary habits lead to poor health. I personally have become more dietary conscious and am trying to find more natural--less processed and chemical free options for my child (and for my husband and I). So even though my child is older than this book is geared toward, I did find a wealth of valuable information and recipes that are still useful today and I would definitely recommend it to parents of infants and toddlers. You may not agree with everything the authors believe and suggest, I didn't, but I found eye-opening information that can easily be included in your family's dietary lifestyle.
Super Nutrition for Babies: The Right Way to Feed Your Baby for Optimal Health is an insightful book that can be quite beneficial to parents with young children, helping them make educated decisions in their child's diet.
