The Smurfs and the Magic Flute on DVD August 14th Review & Giveaway

If you are a Smurfs fan, do you remember back in 1983 there was a movie released to theaters called The Smurfs and the Magic Flute.  I was a little young to remember it, but now that I have a daughter I am very aware of the Smurfs. 

For the first time The Smurfs and the Magic Flute will be released on DVD on August 14th.
 
Here is the synopsis from the back of the DVD case:

In The Smurfs and the Magic Flute, a magical flute is just what Court Jester Peewit needs to play delightful tunes that make everyone in the kingdom dance — until the dancing turns dangerous. Sir Johan tries in vain to recover the musical instrument, but a thief named McCreep beats him to it, intending to use the flute to steal gold from the King’s subjects. It’s the Smurfs to the rescue when Papa Smurf devises a plan to create a second magical flute, and Peewit and Sir Johan go on a great adventure to find McCreep, win the musical duel and save the kingdom!

The movie is 71 minutes in length.  My daughter and I were surprised that the Smurfs do not make their first real appearance in the movie until about 35 minutes in. From them on, however, they are very prominent in the story.  It is based in what I would consider to be the Medieval time period.  This movie has the classic animation look, which is rare to see these days with all of the advances in computer technology.  Once the Smurfs appeared, this movie became really interesting to my daughter.
