County Music Fans, have you discovered Edens Edge yet? There is a good chance that you have heard their song, Amen on the radio or you may have caught them when they opened for Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum and Reba over the past year (this summer they are touring with Rascal Flatts). Those of you who have heard them know their music is deeply rooted in the country music traditions, voices are strong and pure and they harmonize well with each other and with their music--primarily acoustic instrumentation. The group consists of Hannah Blaylock (lead vocals), Dean Berner (harmony vocals, guitar, dobro) and Cherrill Green (harmony vocals, mandolin, banjo and guitar).
This Arkansas based trio recently (June 12, 2012) released their self-titled debut album, Edens Edge with award-winning producers, Mark Bright and Dann Huff on the Big Machine Records label. The album track list includes:
- Swingin' Door
- Skinny Dippin'
- Too Good To Be True
- Last Supper
- Feels So Real
- Who Am I Drinking Tonight
- Cherry Pie
- Christ Alone
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store will release a deluxe edition that with feature 3 additional tracks: Roots, Little Bird and Wherever I Go.
I really enjoyed Edens Edge. I love their sound, particularly the way they can harmonize. I thought the album showcased their talents from multiple aspects--fast, fun and funky (Who Am I Drinking Tonight), to slow and serious (Christ Alone) and everything in between. Which song I like best tends to depend on which mood I am in, but I can honestly say there wasn't a track that I did not care for. Their songs felt real and relate-able (the way a county song should feel, in my opinion).
Thank you to Big Machine for my sample used in this review, opinions are honest. Review by Michelle.
