Did you know that Springfield is home to the Central Illinois Foodbank?
I was invited to tour the facility today and would love to share a few facts I learn about hunger in Central Illinois. I was even able to take a few photos that I want to share.
The Foodbank employes 14 people
Serves 150 Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens in 21 local counties
Distributes an average of 8.5 million pounds of food annually
I also learned that 1 in every 4 children living in their 21 counties depend on the Foodbank, especially in the summer when school meals are not provided. Having a four year old daughter this one I found to be the most upsetting.
Have you ever wondered where the food from your local pantry comes from? The food bank works hand in hand with the USDA, Feeding America, The United Way and of course private donations from local families such as yourself.
Since hunger never goes away, I will be staing in touch with the Foodbank and to share updates with you on a regular basis. Right now the Central Illinois Foodbank would love to help get the word out about their work. I would love nothing more than to help them.
I have been given 5 reusable tote bags to share with readers.
