We can all benefit from sound advice from people who have, 'been there, done that' and that is truly what you will find between the covers of the book, 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans (Hudson Street Press, 2011), written by internationally renowned gerontologist, Karl Pillemer, Ph.D.
Here is the synopsis of 30 Lessons for Living: Tried and True Advice from the Wisest Americans, taken from the dust cover:
After a chance encounter with a remarkable ninety-year-old woman, renowned gerontologist Karl Pillemer decided to find out what older people know about life that the rest of us don't. His quest led him to ask more than a thousand Americans over the age of sixty-five to share their advice for living. What he discovered changed his life.
Seeking wisdom from men and women from all walks of life, Pillemer asked about all the big issues---from marriage to children, from career to money, from regret to happiness. And he found that the counsel he received pointed to thirty lessons for living. Both reaffirming timeless wisdom and surprising us with the unexpected, these people who have already had such rich and varied lives tell us how life really works. Among the many lessons they share: If you want your marriage to be happy, you must never keep score; the single biggest regret you will have is likely to be an act of dishonesty; not only must you choose happiness, you really can.
Weaving together moving personal recollections of difficulties overcome and lives well lived, Pillemer has given us the hard-won advice these older Americans wish someone had given them when they were young. As useful as it is inspiring, 30 Lessons for Living takes its place next to timeless classics like Tuesdays with Morrie and When Bad Things Happen to Good People. To learn how to live without regret, persevere through hard times, find fulfillment, and age fearlessly and well, there is no one better to ask than the people who have done it themselves.
I think 30 Lessons for Living can benefit most everyone, from young adult and up, it would make a wonderful gift for a new high school or college graduate. The life wisdom in this book is invaluable. There wasn't one lesson that I didn't agree with, a few of these lessons I felt I was living fairly well, some I needed to work a little harder on and some I needed to just plain initiate as a part of my current everyday living. The book itself was well written and easy to read and very enjoyable. I really do think we can all benefit from the lessons within this book.

A lesson for living: make a list of all the things you said you would do, people you would visit, etc. and start doing them. I have done that this year and I feel so much better.
