If you have a LEGO fanatic is your midst, who is over the age of 12 and loves to build realistic and even functional items, then the book LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World's Most Impressive Guns (No Starch Press, May 2012) by 17 year old LEGO master, Jack Streat, is just the book for you!
Here is the synopsis of LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World's Most Impressive Guns from the back cover of the book:
BRICK, CLICK, LOCK and LOAD
From LEGO guns mastermind and YouTube sensation Jack Streat comes LEGO Heavy Weapons, a collection of complete building instructions for four truly impressive, 1:1-scale replicas of the world's most iconic firearms: the Desert Eagle handgun, the AKS-74U assault rifle, the Jungle Carbine (a Lee Enfield sniper rifle), and the SPAS 12 shotgun.
Each set of instructions includes a complete parts listing, so you can collect all the bricks you need. The book's illustrated, step-by-step building instructions will be clear to anyone who's ever played with LEGO bricks, and the biggest models will challenge and delight even the most serious builders.
WARNING: These models are not suitable for children under the age of 12, and adult supervision is required. Exercise caution and always wear eye protection when handling these replicas. They really do shoot bricks. Be particularly careful when handling these models in public because they can be mistaken for real guns. See additional warnings inside.
It always amazes me, how much you can build with LEGOs. These guns are really realistic looking and I do recommend exercising caution. While my son is a bit young to be building these (he is 5), my husband (with his military background) was quite impressed with them. I like that the instructions are both pictorial and when needed a written description of how to proceed. I love that each set of instructions contains a list of LEGO bricks needed to complete each project so you can be sure you have everything piece on hand before you get started! The book also contains some interesting information about each of the guns as well. I am quite impressed that a 17 year old can create a LEGO replica so accurate to the details. Please, remember to exercise caution once these weapons are built and parents, remember, you can always use these replicas as a great tool for teaching proper gun handling and respect, as well.
LEGO Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World's Most Impressive Guns is obviously not for young children or for all personalities, however, it is very impressive and contains complete and thorough instructions, perfect for the advance LEGO builder!
