You have been reading for the past few weeks about all of the great things to see and do in Springfield, but I wanted to point out what I think is a good place to start, the Capitol Complex Visitor's Center. This visitor's center is conveniently located within walking distance of the State Capitol, Library, Archives, Illinois State Museum and other state office buildings.
The staff there are very friendly and knowledgeable and you will find a lot of information about Springfield as well as surrounding areas. The center also has a theater that shows a 20-minute video about the Capitol. The Visitor's Center is open Monday-Friday from 8AM-4:30PM and is free. When we visited we picked up several brochures for attractions that were on our list to visit.
For information on this and other attractions in the Springfield area you can visit the Visitors Bureau and request a free copy of the 2012 guide as well as learn about the History Comes Alive program which begins in early June.
Thank you to the Springfield Visitors Center for working with us on these features, opinions are honest. Personal photos used in this review belong to My Springfield Mommy and may not be used without written permission from My Springfield Mommy.
