The Heart Specialist DVD Review

The Heart Specialist is a heartwarming romantic comedy brought to us by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, which is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.

Here is the synopsis of The Heart Specialist from the press release I received:

Smooth-talking lothario Ray Howard (Brian J. White, “Men of a Certain Age”), a young Harvard Medical School graduate, arrives for his internship at a hospital in South Florida to pursue his ex-girlfriend Valerie (Grammy Award®-winner Mya, Chicago) who can’t forgive his womanizing ways. When his supervisor, Dr. Sidney Zachary (NAACP Image Award®-nominee Wood Harris, “The Wire”), discovers that Ray has put the moves on his own girlfriend, nurse Donna (BET Award®-winner Zoe Saldana, Avatar, Star Trek), the two conspire with the rest of the hospital staff, patients, and friends to teach Ray a lesson—not just about medicine, but also about true love.

I was able to watch a screening copy of The Heart Specialist. I enjoyed it and found it to be quite humorous and emotional. The various relationships--romantic and friendship really help make the movie. Now the R rating is there for a reason--I wouldn't let my child watch it but us adults did enjoy it.

The Smurfs Holiday Collection DVD Review

This year is all about the Smurfs at this house. I loved them growing up and now my child gets a huge kick out of watching them, so you can imagine how excited we were to get the chance to see the new Smurfs holiday DVD!

Warner Home Video recently released The Smurfs Holiday Celebration on DVD just in time to celebrate the holiday season. Here is the synopsis from the back of the DVD case:

We thought The Smurfs Holiday Celebration was super cute and it is bound to become an annual holiday DVD for us.

Stanley Home Products Grime Guard Glass Cleaner Review & Giveaway

It did an awesome job on the interior windows of my van and on my glass front door--which faces a busy street and is always covered with dirt and grime. If it can work in those 2 areas, it can work anywhere in my opinion.

Gamification by Design

How many times have you heard the statement, "You've gotta play to game." in relation to achieving your goal. I know I have heard this many times in my life even though I never really thought I was in a position that required me to "win" a game to succeed. I guess I never really put much thought into how the role of game theory actually played into my everyday life. Since I have began reviewing for My Springfield Mommy I have started to become a little more aware of the importance of gamification--what can we do to draw people to the site?--by design.

I am a complete newbie to gamification but I found the book fairly easy to read, follow and understand. I found this book to be a "quick start" into gamification. It didn't really delve into the theory or history behind it but it gives some great tips and examples on how to implement some methods into a business website or app.

Three New Zebra Pens Review

I am very particular about my writing utensils and I love trying out new pens and I recently got the opportunity to test out a few styles of Zebra brand pens. My favorite of these 3 varieties was the Sarasa SE--it fit my personal writing style perfectly. It wrote smoothly and dried quickly and it was comfortably. I like the Z-Grip Animals pens also, the ink was very black which I like. The Erase Away is a great erasable pen. I like that it is retractable, so I don't have to worry about losing the lid--I just wish it wrote just a little darker (I like my black ink--pitch black without a trace of gray--picky I know--my husband thinks they write fine). 

Zebra has long been a trusted name in writing instruments and for a very good reason. They are always making advancement in style and design of pens and mechanical pencils. The 3 I tried are great pens. So if you are in the market for a new writing instrument, I am sure you can find a version through Zebra that fits your pen personality perfectly.

Recipes For Life Linda Evans Book Review & Giveaway 3 Winners

When I think of Linda Evans, I think of a beautiful, glamorous woman. I first realized who she was when she was playing the role of Krystle Carrington on Dynasty. I was intrigued to read her memoirs, Recipes for Life: My Memories (Vanguard Press, 2011), which I found enlightening and entertaining.

I loved the combination of Linda's history mixed in with some great recipes, which are down to earth and delicious--her "Mom's Baked Mac and Cheese" is delicious and I am with her with the Sharp Cheddar, and her "Lose-your-figure potatoes with Cheese and Garlic" are a huge hit in this house too!  I would definitely recommend Linda Evans' Recipes for Life: My Memories to fans of Linda, fans of a good Hollywood story and fans of good, non-fussy cooking for this book really has it all!

Goody Good Stuff Halloween Candy Review

Halloween is right on our doorsteps. I have to admit, I both love and dread this holiday--I love seeing the kids all dressed up in costumes, yet I hate all the candy my child comes home with, and I can imagine the dread families of children with food allergies and intolerance must feel. Goody, Good Stuff that gives parents a vegetarian, vegan and allergy safe option to traditional Halloween Candies and the best part--they taste delicious!

Goody Good Stuff sweets are made using a high quality blend of all natural ingredients that produce a superior taste experience--"Naturally Delicious." Their products are all vegetarian (4 varieties are also Vegan), made with all natural colors (no nasty food dyes that children may react negatively to), and use only natural flavors (nothing artificial).

Hill's Science Diet Senor 11+ Age Defying Cat Food

My oldest cat, Mosby is now about 18 years old and has just recently started to show his age. I have noticed that he sleeps more, has fewer "spaz-outs" (you know, when they go tearing around the house like their tail is on fire and they are trying to get away from it) and he is starting to not tolerate his food and treats as well--more emesis. The food intolerance is probably the biggest change for him--he LOVES food, he is a beggar and is like clockwork to wake us up in the morning for food and treats.
