With our children heading back to school shortly, that means practice for fall sports and other activities is also right around the corner (if it hasn't already started). I remember those first few days of practice being quite rough on my body and coming home with sore muscles and bruised wrists and knees (I played volleyball in the fall) because I hadn't worked out for that activity in quite a while and my body wasn't used to it. Hallmark Back to School Confidence Care Package Review & Giveaway

After being out of school for the summer, it can sometimes be an adjustment for our little ones to get back into the school routine.  It can be a stressful and uncertain time for our little students, so why not give them some things to let them know how much you love and support them.

God Gave Us You Book Review & Giveaway

 

Many of you with young children may have at least on of the "God Gave Us" children's books by Lisa Tawn Bergren--we have a couple in our home--"God Gave Us the World" and "God Found Us You". I Sleep In My Own Bed Book Review & Giveaway

How many of you have had the battle with your toddler as to why they need to sleep in their own bed?  I know I have! I still have those conversations periodically with my 4 year old! So, I loved the book, "I Sleep In My Own Bed" (Xlibris, 2010), the children's book written and illustrated by Glenn Wright.

Here is the synopsis of "I Sleep In My Own Bed" from the back cover:

Any parent of a toddler has been through the troubles of their child being too scared to sleep in their own bed "just because"--because of a monster, because of a noise, or because of a bad dream. Hopefully this book will be the companion to all the reasons why our young ones should want to spend more time in their bedrooms and realize that there is nothing to fear. This book takes a child on a journey to all the places they wouldn't want to sleep and outlines  the reason why their own bed is the perfect place to sleep.

In my opinion, this book is written perfectly for the age of children it is geared toward--toddler/preschool aged. My 4 year old could really relate to the sentiments used--eww, gross, etc.--the sentiments that seem to make the biggest impact on him at this age.  I love the simplicity of the writing that really allows a parent to either read it directly as it is or to extrapolate to personalize it more to the child--like we discuss which stuffed animals (yes, they have names) would miss him if he wasn't in his own bed. It has fast became a favorite at our home!

I love the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. I find them to be so inspirational and helpful. This book I think could be a huge support to a Preteen, because lets face it, sometimes they really don't want to talk to an adult (much to my chagrin), at least I know they have a positive resource they can read and know they are not alone with whatever they are going through at that time. I am passing my copy on to my preteen niece, I hope it helps her navigate these next few years more happily.

 I love the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and I remember my teen years being some of the most difficult years of my life and I wish there had been even a fraction of the support that there is for teenagers now back then. As I read through Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Teenagers book, it reminded me of what I went through growing up and I am glad that these stories are available for current teens so that they can find an understanding an awareness that they are not alone and find the strength to develop a strong sense of self as they progress into adulthood. I am passing this book onto my niece, who becomes a true teenage later this year. I sure hope she finds it comforting and supportive as she travels through those teen years--I think it will!

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Just for Teenagers would make a perfect addition to any teenager's library. I am sure most anyone would find a little inspiration in the stories of other teenagers making it through that difficult time.
