Motorola Roadster In-Car Speakerphone Review

My husband has a Ford vehicle that came equipped with SYNC.  The feature of SYNC that I am most jealous of is the hands free calling feature. 

Thanks to Motorola, you don't have to buy a brand new car to get hands free calling, all you need is to pick up a Motorola Roadster Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone. I found it to be easy to set up and use.

The Roadster has dual-microphone noice cancellation technology which helps to block out road and background noise.  I asked the people I was talking to if they had any difficulty hearing me and the answer was no.  Plus, the Roadster can read your text messages to you and allows you to dictate text responses back.  You have to have an Android powered 2.2 device for the MotoSpeak feature to work.

Plus, you can listen to your calls and music either on the Roadster speaker or through your car speakers. I also appreciate that the Roadster is energy efficient...it automatically comes on when you get in the car and shuts off when you leave.  Another great feature applies to those of you that have a business phone and a personal phone: the Roadster is equipped with technology that lets you pair two devices to it, so you won't miss any of your important calls.

It seems as if more and more states are passing laws banning the use of handheld cell phones while driving, but so far the hands free options are still allowed.   You obviously still need to be aware that using the Roadster can be distracting, I find that it is much easier to make and receive phone calls hands free.

With our lives being so busy, it is easy to let time slip without recording those special memories of our children. Get To Know Your Kid (Stewart, Tabori & Chang/ ABRAMS, 2011) by Shana Connell Noyes is a new tool for helping parents record the words and personality of their children in one easy step. This book is sort of a journal, with 100 questions to ask you child and space to date and record their answers.
Here is the synopsis from the back cover of the Get to Know Your Kid:
 
Do you like your name? What was the best day of your life? If you had a time machine, would you use it? Childhood flies by and is over before you know it. We try our best, but as parents we are often too busy to write down the magical things our children say. Get To Know Your Kid includes one hundred questions that are specifically designed to encourage young children to open up and share their thoughts, hopes, fears and dreams. But Get to Know Your Kid is more than a book of questions--it is also designed to become a memento. This book will become a lasting record that you and your child will cherish forever.

I was given a copy of Get to Know Your Kid to check out for this review. I like that it is hardcover and personalize-able right from the front cover. The questions are designed for children ages 4 to 10. It is a great way to initiate some more open dialogue with your child and I love that you can write down the answers your child gives you and look back at them later--it will be neat to look back at my 4 year old's answers when he graduates from high school. It will also be cool to look back and see how his answers change each year. I love the entire concept of this book--it really helps to guide your discussions and really get to know how you child thinks and feels! 

I highly recommend Get to Know Your Kid for any parent--it will be a invaluable memento for many years to come, a little piece of their childhood that you can always keep with you or pass on to them as they go out into the world on their own to remind them of where they came from and how they used to think.

Gottawatta Filters Water on the Run


The Gottawatta is an easy-to-use, portable water-filtration system, with the unique ability to filter chemicals and bacteria without removing the fluoride. Gottawatta was designed by a dentist after noticing a rise in cavities since the bottle water craze came into being. 

Here are some of the details of the Gottawatta bottle that I got from the PR information:
  • Portable & Reusable--Gottawatta is a portable, re-usable, filtered water bottle. It replaces over 500 bottles of bottled water and has several advantages over buying bottled water.
  • Filters Bacteria--Gottawatta is the way to drink clean water from any source! Most portable systems under $40 filter harmful chemicals. Gottawatta also filters bacteria; these bottles are so safe they were used by refugees immediately following the recent Haiti earthquake.
  • Fluoride Remains in the Water--Bottled water doesn't have fluoride in it, beneficial in fighting tooth decay. Use Gottawatta instead with fluoridated tap water, and the fluoride will remain with the water.
  • Go Green without Trying--Save all the oil required to make disposable bottles and save our landfills from unnecessary waste. After 500 uses of a Gottawatta bottle, just replace the filter and your BPA-free bottle is ready for 500 more uses.
Check out this list of what all the Gottawatta filter system eliminates--to me it is really amazing to think that one little filter can do so much--it really is perfect to take with you anywhere. Use it at home, in the office, hiking or camping. It would also make a great addition for you emergency preparedness kit.

I was given a Gottawatta bottle to check out for this review. This is by far one of my favorite things. First, because it really does make my water taste so much better, our city water tastes awful in my opinion--and this make the water taste as good if not better than bottled water. The Gottawatta bottle goes with me everywhere--I can refill it anywhere I happen to be. I like that I can use it 500 times before the filter needs to be changed (160 times with raw, untreated water), that is a lot of plastic bottles I am not adding to the landfill. I like that the straw is anti-microbial and it also folds down under the lid that slides open & closed and remains attached, so no risk of me losing the lid. Plus it is comfortable and easy to tote around. Honestly, mine goes with me everywhere--I never have to worry about chemical tasting water again. 

The Gottawatta bottle is great for anyone, as an alternative to bottled water. It filters chemicals AND bacteria from your water making even most untreated water (lakes, streams etc, not including salt water) safe for consumption. Gottawatta bottles and replacement filters are only available online, and you can save with the increase number of bottles purchased. Also, a portion of the sales proceeds will be donated to various charities.

Luckily, I am not in the process of getting a divorce, but I know people who are and I understand how difficult it is for the children to understand and deal with the situation. I like that this book is more than a story book, it is an entire workbook that a parent can work through page by page with the children to help them understand and come to accept the situation. The Appendices are very informative for giving a parent a better understanding of how a child may be thinking or feeling and ways that they can help the child adjust more positively. 

If you are finding yourself faced with a divorce and you have young children--My Mom and Dad Are Getting a Divorce! is a great book for helping your children navigate through this time of turmoil, plus it provides adults with additional resources so they can more fully help the children.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it kept me reading and I liked that the main positive character was just a plain average Joe instead of some macho super person. It combines a lot of elements to bring this story together--secret pasts, psychological issues, blackmail, FBI involvement and more. 
Lonely Deceptions
was an enjoyable suspense/mystery read. It will be a great book for suspense lovers to enjoy while enjoying the summer sun or while chilling in the AC.

Stop Back To School Bullying With Sneaky Snake Book Review & Giveaway

Sneaky Snake (Author House, 2011) is a children's book by Melissa Utz Taylor and illustrated by Joe Lee that encourages children to have a kind heart and that bullying doesn't pay--we all need friends. 
Here is the synopsis of Sneaky Snake from it's back cover:
The goal when trying to teach children is to make it interesting and above all, lots of fun. From children to adults, having good friends is an important part of who we are. In the story of Sneaky Snake, I used basic animals to teach children about the importance of friendship. My point is as simple as just being nice to others, is being a good friend.

Sneaky Snake is a well written book with an easy to understand message. As a parent, it is a great book for pointing out the characteristic of the animals that you want your child to exhibit and which ones you don't want them doing. It is an easy way for your child to see the impact that bullying has on others and also ultimately on the bully--who has no friends when he needs to have one. I find that my 4 year old child relates more to talking animals--from the cranky Sneaky Snake to the tender-hearted Cow & Beagle to the Wise Owl-- for some reason, than he does reading books with children in them, plus her characters had all the human emotions that he would feel in similar situations. The illustrations do a great job enhancing the story line.

Sneaky Snake is a great book for initiating dialogue to preschool aged children, regarding being a good friend and about the harmful affects of bullying.
