Reaching

Reaching (Kids Can Press, 2011) is a sweet story for young children (birth to 3)  by Judy Ann Sadler and illustrated by Susan Mitchell. This adorable picture book is filled with love of a family and the growing of a young child!

Here is the synopsis of Reaching from the dust jacket on the book:

Over the course of a sunny afternoon, a baby and his loving family laugh, play and celebrate being together. Mama, Daddy and Big Sister provide a happy cuddle, Grandma likes to dance and Grandpa is always ready to play "horsey." When Baby holds Auntie's helping hands, he is ready to stand on his own sturdy feet and explore the world around him. But at bedtime, Baby is once again safely where he belongs, in the loving arms of his parents, who know that only too soon he will be reaching beyond them for the moon and the stars.

In gentle rhyming verse, Judy Ann Sadler creates a world of love and security that all childen will appreciate, while Susan Mitchell's luminous watercolors make Reaching an irresistibly joyful book, one that will delight children and parents alike. 

Reaching is totally adorable, with just a touch of bittersweet-as a mom who's 4 year old is growing so fast. The illustrations are bright and colorful and will definitely capture a little one's attention. This would make a wonderful bedtime story for a little one on you shopping list!
