We all know how important it is for our children to eat their vegetables, and I have found with my own 4 year old, when he helps grow the veggies he is much more likely to eat them. In fact, in general he won't touch tomatoes, however he helped me grow some grape tomatoes in my tiny garden this summer and he was more than willing to pick them and eat them when they were ripe. So I was super excited to be introduced to Growums.
Growups are little garden starter kits that teach children to grow their own herbs and vegetables from seed to harvest. They currently have 6 specially-themed garden kits that combine learning and fun along with a unique and exciting online educational experience, where they will meet an animated cast of herbs and vegetables who will teach them what they need to do to grow their plants and eat them too! Currently the 6 garden kits are:
Each garden kit comes with unique, magical coco (peat) pellets that make planting and growing almost fail-proof, 4 seed packets of the 4 different herbs & veggies included and 8 plant tags so you know which is which.
I am super excited about Growums and so is my 4 year old. We were given a Taco Garden and a Ratatouille Garden to check out. Since winter is almost upon us, we decided to wait a bit before we started our little gardens--my child begs to differ--he wants to do it now but I am Mom, I win--garden starts in the spring. Given how excited my child was about helping in the garden this past season and how excited he is about starting his own, I am contemplating getting the other kits and just letting him take over the majority of the garden, most of what we planted last year is included in these kits anyway, so why not make it a bigger family event. We have played a bit on the website as well so it will be really fun to see how our garden grows along with the website characters.
Growums will make a neat stocking stuffer that will keep giving well into harvest season. I know my 4 year is ecstatic about getting started on his!
