From Stage IV to Center Stage (Balboa Press, 2011) by Denise DeSimone is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. It is the author's memoir of her journey with cancer and  to live life to fullest.
Here is the synopsis of From Stage IV to Center Stage from the back cover of the book:

From Stage IV to Center Stage is a story of extraordinary courage, strength, and deep spirituality.  Given three months to live because of stage IV throat and neck cancer, to singing the National Anthem before a Red Sox game at Fenway Park in Boston, to riding her bicycle eighty-seven miles in one day to raise money for children's cancer research with the Pan Mass Challenge, is proof that the unexpected can be achieved.
Denise chose not to "battle" cancer, she chose to embrace it and allow it to become her teacher and her sage. She learned that self love is the all-time greatest healer.

I thought this book and the authors story is absolutely amazing. I can only hope that I could find such inner strength if I should ever find myself in such a situation.  Her unique perspective on dealing with her cancer is remarkable. Her story is well written and uplifting. I highly recommend this book for others to read.

From Stage IV to Center Stage would make an excellent gift for the book readers on your list!
