I don't know about you but when I look back through my own baby book--there are a lot of details about that period of time that are left out. How many times have you seen the cards that tell you what occurred on you birthday, month or year and have picked it up to look through it. Well graphic artist Ryan Maconochie, felt the same way, and since his search for a baby book that would chronicle everything he wanted to in his daughters first year was in vain--he designed his own and is now making it available for other new parents as well.
Here is the synopsis of Ryan Maconochie's This Is Your Book-- a fill-in journal for all the things that happened when you were a baby (Stewart, Tabori & Chang; October 2011) from the back cover:
This is Your Book is the baby journal for the modern parent. With unique prompts, including...
- These are some names we considered naming you...
- The Secretary General of the United Nations was...
- People
magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" was...
- The tallest building in the world was...
- A Super Bowl commercial cost...
- These countries were at war...
- A pack of diapers cost...
...this easy-to-use journal becomes a treasured time capsule of your child's first year.
- A gallon of gas cost...
Now this book also contains the traditional vital statistics--height,weight, eye & hair color, birth hospital, day, date and time of birth, copy of birth certificate, hand & foot prints, ultrasound photo and lots of other pages for other first pictures, events and other things/ people in the new and much more.
In my opinion, This Is Your Book is pretty cool and will be much appreciated as they child grows up. This book could be filled in for an older child as well--especially with all the access to information on the internet. It is a lot of the information that a child will be curious about as a child grows into adulthood. It would make a great baby shower gift. I also like the concealed spiral binding, I think it gives it a finished look while allowing for ease of use. The cover design makes it gender neutral for those who do not find out ahead of time.
This Is Your Book will be available through Abrams Books and Amazon starting October 1, 2011.

I love that this isn't a book that you must fill in as things happen. Heck, I could even make my own baby book LOL! I'd love to win this for my oldest son. His baby book was lost in a break-in. The idiots stole my photos and baby books of all things.

I like that this book can also be used for an older child & not just a infant/baby/toddler.

I like this book because it is a bit different from the traditional baby books that we are used to. It is more modern and we can add more information about what is currently happening when the child was born.

I like this book for its unique prompts, not a typical baby book. Plus I don't have one yet for my almost four month old!
