If you are a bread lover and you haven't discover the Great Harvest Bread Co, you need to! I experienced it for the first time today and "Oh my goodness!" it was sooo delicious!
For more than 30 years Great Harvest bakers have been handcrafting amazing breads and other treats from freshly ground premium whole wheat. Their whole grain breads use the entire wheat kernel maintaining its natural goodness--Vitamins, Fiber and Protein--removing nothing beneficial and adding nothing artificial--aka No Preservatives! They grind their whole wheat flour in store each day and used within 48 hours to ensure you are getting the freshest ingredients possible in your bread, plus we all know that whole grains are the healthy way to go!
Great Harvest Bread Co. is a business franchise, meaning they are a community of independent family-owned bakeries that share the same name, recipes and mission. Their mission statement includes: Be Loose and Have Fun, Bake Phenomenal Bread, Run Fast to Help Customers, Create Strong, Exciting Bakeries, and Give Generously to Others. There are currently over 200 Great Harvest Breat Co bakeries around the US, baking their bread from scratch, by hand and through a skilled process that takes five hours per batch. Their Honey Whole Wheat bread is their all time top seller, followed by other whole grain breads like Dakota, Nine Grain and High-Five Fiber. Plus Great Harvest Bread Co allows their bakery owners to develop their own varieties to meet the needs of their clientele and their own creative needs. In addition to bread, they also may feature other products including granola, cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones, cookies, specialty batter breads, gourmet jams and peanut butter, dipping oils and soup mixes. Many of the Great Harvest bakeries also have soups and sandwiches available.
Today, I visited one of the Great Harvest Bread Co. franchises in St Louis (I had an appointment down there and decided to check it out). Let me just say, the staff was super helpful. I am a newbie to the company, the staff explained how their wheat was milled and bread was created each morning. They have a planned menu for the month that shows which specialty breads would be made each day. I was also able to sample a couple pieces of different varieties of bread. Of course, I had to try their Honey Whole Wheat--which is wonderful--I found it interesting that it only has 5 ingredients in it! I also tried one of their specialty breads--which they called Popeye--it was half wheat/ half white and contained spinach and chunks of Parmesan cheese in it (I think)--it was to die for. It was still super warm and it was absolutely wonderful. As I left the store--I called my husband and told him that I just found the best bread ever! I know there is also a bakery in Springfield, IL and I have already scouted out their website and I planning to check out them out very soon.
The Great Harvest Bread Co. has the most delicious breads--they have their standard breads that every store makes but then to add the charm of each store they have created their own specialty breads that make them unique. I definitely highly recommend checking them out wherever you are--I think you will be very satisfied (you might even want to order some for you upcoming holiday celebrations--let them do the work of making the bread)!
