Now that the kids are back in school--have you remembered all the important things that help keep them healthy? Here a few things that are commonly overlooked:
- The Backpack--you want one with wide, padded shoulder straps to distribute the weight over a large area of your child's shoulder; an abdominal strap to distribute the weight evenly on their back, waist and hips and reflectors/reflective fabrics to add visibility at dusk or dawn
- Paper--Did you realize that the high contrast of the bright white paper can cause increased eye strain? Choosing a yellow or green paper, if your school will allow it, will actually reduce the strain on the eyes.
- Sunscreen--remember the sun's rays are brightest during 10am and 4pm, and the sun stays strong well into the fall months. If your child is spending time outside for recess, sports or other activities send along a wide brimmed hat (not so much for sports but with other outdoor activities) and of course sunscreen, such as Coppertone Kids Pure & Simple tear-free sunscreen lotion or Coppertone Kids sunscreen stick.
Coppertone Kids Pure & Simple Sunscreen Lotion contains 50 SPF and provides UVA & UVB protection. This version is oil, fragrance and dye free. It's a Zinc Oxide based sunscreen. It is designed to be ultra gentle, tear-free and waterproof.
I used this on my family last weekend, when we spent several hours outdoors playing. I like that it is tear-free, nothing is worse than have your child get sunscreen in their eyes! I we didn't spend any time in the water but we did get a bit sweaty being outside in the heat and playing and none of us ended up even a hint of a sunburn. The only problem I had with it, which is similar to many zinc oxide based products, is that it left a bit of a white hue on our skin that took a while to absorb in--it wasn't horrible and if did keep us well protected, so I can deal with that! This is my choice for applying before my child goes to school to develop a base layer of sunscreen--my 4 year old would have it everywhere if I sent this version along with him to use at school.
Coppertone Kids Sunscreen Stick contains 55 SPF and provided the UVA & UVB protection. It is also fragrance free and waterproof. It is easy to apply for adults and kids alike. It's convenient and portable.
I always have a sunscreen stick with me (in the past it has been the WaterBabies version), I love the convenience of it and the fact that you can be sure to get the ears and nose well. This is my choice to adding to the backpack--less mess and easy for them to apply.
As we are becoming more and more aware of the sun's harmful effects on our skin, adding the SPF protection to our daily routines is important for every member of our family including our children and Coppertone Kids family of sunscreens can help us with that.
