Inspired by The SHMILY Story by Laura Hammond, where a couple would write the letters SHMILY in various places for the other to find to tell them "See How Much I Love You!", Scott & Jennifer Ertl created a wooden SHMILY coin that they could exchange back and forth as a reminder of the others' love. It has become a treasured token that has enhanced their marriage in a fun fashion. Instead of simply handing it back and forth--they would hide it for the other to find adding a dimension of romantic fun to the tender moment. Now they have made their SHMILY wooden coins available to you.
The wooden SHMILY coin, not only is designed to show someone how much you love them but it is made specifically of wood to remind you that relationships are like trees, they take time to grow and mature, some years show great times of growth, while others are lean and just like a tiny splinter can cause great pain, a SHMILY wooden coin can create great joy in your life and the life of your loved ones.
I love the whole SHMILY concept, the story behind the coin is so sweet and inspiring, it is a great way to nurture a marriage--it keeps things exciting. I like the ideas of taking SHMILY coin beyond the marriage to other relationships in your life--parent-child, sibling and any other special relationship. My child started preschool the other day--so each day I am sending the SHMILY coin along with him in one of his pockets, so he always has that reminder when we are not with him--I plan to get more creative as school progresses. It seems to help him separate a little easier. I have also tucked a SHMILY into my husband's laptop for him to find at work and into his wallet. I have found it on my morning tea cup and on my pillow.
I like the idea of using the SHMILY coins with families dealing with a serviceman or woman being deployed overseas--the deployed person would love getting the token of your love in their care package (plus they can easily keep it with them) and the spouse and children who are still at home love getting the reminder that the service person is thinking of them and loving them even when they can't be with them. Wonderful little tokens of love that can be carried with you. This also works for children of divorced parents--they need the reminder that both parents still completely love them even when they are not together.
SHMILY wooden coins are a great way to show the love within your family every day of your life, plus it is really nice to get a little reminder yourself. You can find out how to order your own SHMILY coin on their website and keep updated and get some good ideas for using them by following them on Facebook and Twitter.

My family does something sort of like this, only we leave plastic spiders to scare each other! But I know that, when I find a spider, it means whoever hid it there loves me. :) It would be nice to leave something a little less cryptic and a lot less creepy, though! So I'd slip these in my husband's suit pocket at he leaves in the morning, in my kids' lunchboxes, in shoes...anywhere it might bring a smile!
Thanks...love this idea!
