Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers is a powerful retelling of the Old Testament Book of Hosea and over the past 20 years it has been as well-known and loved in Christian circles, as classics such as Gone With The Wind is. It is a book about God's unconditional, redemptive and all-consuming love. Over 1 million copies of the book have been sold--it has been sold in both Christian and mainstream markets. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Multnomah is releasing a special edition on August 1st, 2011.
If you are not familiar with the book, Redeeming Love, here is the synopsis from the back cover of the special edition book:
California's gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.
Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside.
Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father's heart in everything, Michael obeys God's call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel's every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.
But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband's pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does...the One who will never let her go.
A powerful retelling of the book of Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of God's unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.
I was given a copy of Redeeming Love. I hadn't read it previously and I have to admit that I was a bit intimidated by the size of the book, but once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! It was a very powerful and yet very sweet and romantic. It really pulls all of your emotions into play. Every aspect of the book just flowed together perfectly for me. It will a book that I am sure I will re-read multiple times. For me, it is a must-read book.
If you haven't read Redeeming Love, I think you will truly enjoy it. If you have read it in the past, now is a great time to re-read it, especially with the 20th Anniversary addition being released.
