Summer means one of two things, family vacation or a chance to work with your kids toward learning something new before the school year begins. Either way Arcadia Kids is here to help. With the help of Kate Boehm Jerome, they have created a series of books called Cool Stuff Every Kid Should Know. With profiles of 14 cities in the US, each 32 page book breaks down both local and state wide information.
Cities profiled include:
Columbus, Ohio
Austin, Texas
San Antonio, Texas
Columbia, South Carolina
Savannah, Georgia
Jacksonville, Florida
Rochester, New York
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Raleigh, North Carolina
Charlotte, North Carolina
Richmond, Virginia
Boston, Massachuettes
Chicago, Illinois
I have been reviewing the series as a whole, but I have focused on Columbus, Philadelphia and Chicago. The three cities we will be visiting this summer.
As you know I will be visiting Columbus this summer. While I know that the series is for kids I learned a few things about the city that I did not know. For example I had no idea the city had a Topiary Park or a large German influence. When we leave Columbus we will be heading to Philadelphia, of course we all know of the Liberty Bell, but did you know they have a 45 foot tall sculpture of a clothespin? Later in the summer I am attending a bloggers event in Chicago, my husband and daughter will be joining me. While I am in meetings they will be going to the Shedd Aquarium to see what all they have to offer.
If you are planning a summer trip, consider getting a copy of Cool Stuff Every Kids Should Know . The books are both fun and informative. Children and adults for that matter have something to learn from this collection.
