For over 25 years, Learning Resources has been a leading manufacturer of
innovative and hands-on educational materials for the home and school
setting around the world, for children and their support system
(parents, teachers, therapists etc) from early childhood through middle
school aged students, including products to assist with special learning
needs. Learning Resources prides themselves in providing exceptional
and safe learning tools for our children.
The "Early Science Explorer's Set: Big Science for Little Hands!"
is a prime example of some of what they have to offer for exciting
learning tools. The Explorer's Set is designed for children ages 3 and
up (PreK+). This set encourages little one's to explore their world up
close, with tools perfectly sized for their hands. The Explorer's Set
includes:
- A safe durable, 4 1/2 inch diameter plastic lens Magnifier (or Magnifying glass as I grew up calling it). It is 4.5x strength and includes an easy flip out stand for hands-free observation.
- Flexible 6 inch tweezers with built in easy-grip depressions to guide children into the proper pincher position. Great for fine motor skill manipulation!
The Early Science Explorer's Set is made of bright colored durable and washable plastic!
I
was given an Early Science Explorer's Set to check out. My 4 year old
son loved it from the moment he got the hands on the package--he was
trying to use the magnifier before I even took it out of the package!
He gets quite a kick out of making things look bigger and everything
gets picked up with the tweezers that can be (I did however ban them
from the dinner table)! My son struggles with his fine motor skills and I
have had a difficult time trying to keep him motivated to work on them,
so I LOVE this set--especially the tweezers for that reason--I like
that they really promote the proper pincher grip that is needed to learn
how to write properly and it's all fun so he doesn't realize he is
working on his grip! The set seems well built and durable. Our set will
be getting plenty of use!
The Early Science Explorer's Set is available at Learning Resources, online retailers and specialty stores.

My little guy is already looking for bugs and checking out the budding trees. I'm sure he'd love to watch ants, aphids, and caterpillars all summer when we go out exploring! (And his big brothers had better NOT show him how to start fires with the magnifying glass!!!)

If we won, I hope my son would use this to explore all the natural things in our backyard. We just planted a garden this summer to learn about nature and how things grow and hopefully will harvest some veggies to eat and are also hoping that the flowers attract some butterflys and other insects.
