Edible Haven Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Review & Giveaway

Links provided may be from affiliate programs which help support this blog. Thanks for clicking!

I had just recently discovered the extensive health benefits of coconut, in particular coconut oil. I am a complete newbie in cooking with it and still have a ton to learn. Edible Haven, LLC is making using coconut products more accessible at affordable prices.

Edible Haven's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is made using fresh coconut or what is called non-copra, fully dry coconut. It is cold-pressed to provide us with high quality coconut oil. The health benefits of using coconut oil include:
  • strengthens the immune system
  • regulates blood sugar
  • helps maintain thyroid function
  • promotes weight loss
  • has anti-viral & anti-microbial properties
  • helps maintain proper HDL & LDL levels
  • moisturizes & softens skin, works great as a massage oil
  • leaves hair soft & silky when used as a conditioner
Edible Haven Organic Virgin Coconut Oil works great for higher temperature cooking (up to 350 degrees), it can also be used as a healthier substitute for butter or other spreads. It contains no trans fats or preservatives. I have to admit the first time I saw Virgin Coconut Oil, I was surprised that it was in solid form at room temperature, but I have found it easy to work with. I found this Virgin Coconut Oil to have a clean, fresh, raw coconut taste and smell that I really like! I like using it as my cooking oil and adding it to rice and even oatmeal--it just adds a subtle little taste of coconut and gives me all the benefits of a healthy oil!

Edible Haven 100% Natural Coconut Sugar is derived from the sweet sap (toddy) of the coconut. It is considered to be the best sweetener substitute. It has a low glycemic index level of 35 (cane sugar is 50). It is preservative free. It can be used as a direct substitute for cane sugar or brown sugar. The sugar itself is golden in color and look like rough particles, but they are definitely not as coarse as they look and the taste is sweet with a bit of coconut. I think it was absolutely delicious in my coffee this morning.

Edible Haven's newest addition is their Organic Coconut Flour (coming in June 2011). Coconut Flour is gluten free, is high in fiber (2 times higher than wheat bran), low in digestible carbohydrates and a good source of protein. The texture is similar to standard white flour, the color is cream. It has a coconut fragrance and it has a gentle raw coconut taste.

I was able to try out all 3 of the Edible Haven products and love them. I am a coconut fan and I like it even more after I learned how healthy it actually is! This is my first experience with the Coconut Sugar and Coconut Flour, and let me just tell you I am sold. As for the Coconut Oil--when I compared Edible Haven's to the version I had on hand--it seemed to have a fresher taste and smell. I really liked all 3 products!

Being a newbie at using coconut oil, sugar & flow, I appreciated that I could download a copy of Edible Haven's 30 recipes that use these products! You can too!

I have used it. It has very good baking and cooking properties. Whether you like the flavor is a matter of taste. In some dishes it can be a little dominant.

I lived in Costa Rica for a year and ate coconut oil all the time because that is what the locals cooked with. I miss the flavour. I had no idea it was so good for me, though I was extremely healthy when I was there. We lived mostly off the fruit of the trees, the fish we caught and coconut oil...it also didn't hurt that we had no car so I had to hike everywhere. Man, I need to get back in shape! Thanks for the chance. This oil would be a great thing to have!
