Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories Review & Giveaway

General Mills Cheerios is searching for the next new children's author in their Cheerios Spoonful of Stories 2011 New Author Contest!

Do you have an idea for a children's book bubbling up in you? Write it down and submit it! You could be the next big children's author!

The annual Cheerios New Author Contest encourages authors to write an original children's story (suitable for children ages 3 to 8). The story may be written in English or Spanish. The one Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000 cash and the possibility of a publishing deal with Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing and have his/her book featured inside a box of General Mills Cheerios cereal boxes nationwide--you may have noticed, or you will soon, the 2009 Cheerios New Author Contest winner, Laurie Isop's book "How Do You Hug A Porcupine?" inside specially marked boxes of Cheerios.

If you are interested in finding out further details on entering the Cheerios Spoonful of Stories 2011 New Author Contest check out the contest rules and entry form at www.spoonfulsofstoriescontest.com. You have until July 15th, 2011 to write and submit your children's story for the contest!

"How Do You Hug A Porcupine?" is an adorable and fun book. The edition in the Cheerios box is written in both English and Spanish. You can find it in Cheerios boxes now and will be available in bookstores nationwide beginning July 2011.  Will your children's book the 2011 one to be featured in the Cheerios box?

General Mills Cheerios are a huge favorite in our house--with milk and without. As a parent, I feel when I give my child Cheerios I am giving him healthy whole grain nutrition without a ton of sugar! Even as an adult, Cheerios are still one of my favorite cereals--we almost always have at least one box in my home! I think that it is great that General Mills has taken their Cheerios (good nutrition for one's body) and mixed in nutrition for one's mind--reading and writing--with their 'Spoonful of Stories' program.

As part of this review, I was given a box of Cheerios with the book "How Do You Hug A Porcupine?" in it and a Creativity for Kids "Create-your-own" book kit for kids (ages 4 to 94) by Faber-Castell USA. The Create-your-own" book kit contains 2 hardcover books, colored pencils and some starter ideas for you or your kids to start working on your own children's book--story, artwork and all--totally created by you!

I hope many of you creative minds out there take a chance and write a children's book! Good Luck and Happy Reading and Writing!

Would you like to win a prize pack that includes a box of Cheerios with Laurie Isop’s book inside, as well as a “create-your-own” book kit for kids that contains two hard cover books and all the necessary materials to creatively fill the pages inside, including story starter ideas and colored pencils?

What type of story do you think your child will write?

My daughter loves lizards so I think most likely that she will write a story about her captured lizards.

What makes it timeless is the imagination and creativity that a child or children have stored up in their mind....it universally the same at every age

A children's book becomes timeless when generations of children enjoy reading it/ hearing the story. There are stories and books that have been around for a very long time, but still are enjoyed by children (even as lifestyles, technology, and social norms change.)

I think they are timeless for many reasons, but I think we all connect with the themes they pick and children are so honest. It seems that most children's books make people think the books were actually from their generation.
