Waiting for Superman Movie Review + Pay It Forward

If you have a child, whether they are in school currently or will be attending school in the next few years, you really need to see the movie, "Waiting for Superman" if you have not already.

This is a very powerful documentary about the state of the education system in the United States.  This is probably the most important issue of our time and this movie shows it through the eyes of 5 amazing children.  I think those that have already seen this movie would agree that this is one of those movies that sticks with you after you watch it.  It makes you frustrated at one point, hopeful at another, and makes you think and hopefully inspire you to try to help.

My daughter is only in pre-school, but her education has certainly been a topic discussed by my husband and I.  We took the decision of where to send her to preschool seriously, because we want her to get off to a great start.  I am sure you have also kept an eye on your local district's achievement test scores, as we have as well.  We all want our kids to have it better than we have it...but unfortunately the education system is failing in that regard, and as it stands right now, our children are going to be worse off than we are.

This movie takes a very hard look at the problems facing the schools today and I encourage you to take a look at it.

If you are looking to pay it forward and make a positive step in helping our children in school, I would also encourage you to purchase this DVD or Blu-ray through Amazon. The DVD on Amazon is being sold for $17.99 and the Blu-ray is $21.99.  The reason I am suggesting this is because each copy purchased through Amazon will come with a $25 gift card for you to donate to a local school through DonorsChoose.org.  With DonorsChoose, you get to select a school that has requested specific items, you donate your $25 to this cause, when the goal is reached the supplies are sent to that specific teacher/classroom and then you receive cards, pictures and thank you notes from the teacher and students.  I made a donation using DonorsChoose last year to a school in Springfield and it really made me feel good knowing that what I gave made a difference and receiving the thanks from the teachers and students was icing on the cake.

Get inspired and check out "Waiting for Superman".
