"The Self-Aware Parent: Resolving Conflict and Building a Better Bond With Your Child"
is a recently released (Palgrave Macmillian) "Parenting Help" book by a leading child and family psychotherapist, Dr Frances Walfish.
Here is the description from the back of the book:
As our children grow, they reveal distinct personalities that can clash with our own. Psychotherapist Dr Fran Walfish shows parents the importance of knowing yourself and how to turn that knowledge into a healthy relationship with your child. You will learn how to identify the different strengths and weaknesses of your parenting style, give your child room to express themselves while maintaining your authority, and establish trust with your child to better prepare for the turbulent teenage years.
I thought this book was written in a easy to understand manner. I think that it would be a great benefit to most any parent--regardless of the age of your child, by learning & understanding your own parenting style you can make the changes that need to occur to more fully bond with you child and hopefully have a happier time as they travel through those teenage years. My child is not quite 4 and after reading this book, I can see areas that I need to work on as a parent to prepare us for the road ahead. I definitely would recommend this book to other parents and plan of referring back to this book from time to time!

I try to spend time with my kids. I tend to focus too much on housework, so for me, spending time with them means a lot! so that's how I try to build my relationship with them right now.

I am open with my children and try to provide explanations they can understand at their age for their questions. I am teaching them right from wrong and take every opportunity to spend time with them and engage them in learning activities.
