Gnomeo & Juliet Movie Review: Opens This Friday, February 11th

What better way to start off Valentine's weekend then with a movie based on probably the most famous love story of all time...Romeo & Juliet...but instead of tormented actors, how about tormented Lawn Gnomes?!

Watch this video for some Gnome facts to prepare you for the movie.

My family was invited by Touchstone Pictures for an advance screening of Gnomeo & Juliet in 3D this past weekend.

This was my first 3D movie I have been to and I was not disappointed. There were scenes that really looked great in 3D. Obviously I can not reveal too much of the movie, but it does follow the general plot of Romeo and Juliet and includes the warring Montague and Capulet families, however, in Gnomeo & Juliet the fighting families are gnomes who live next door to one another divided only by a wood fence.  Listen for some great characters voiced by Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Michael Caine, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne and even Dolly Parton and Hulk Hogan.

What makes a G-rated movie successful is that it appeals to both children and adults and this movie does just that.  There are plenty of jokes that adults will get that will probably sail right over your child's head and a few of the more famous phrases from Shakespeare are thrown in too.  What my husband really enjoyed was the music...he is a fan of Elton John and really enjoyed the famous songs used in the movie and the manner in which they were used.  There were the original recordings used as well as symphonic versions and even a classic Elton John song that popped up in a scene when a gnome was using a computer that he thought was very clever.

The movie runs 84 minutes long and it does really go by quickly.  Gnomeo & Juliet opens this Friday, February 11th.  Take your whole family for a fun movie experience.

Thanks to Touchstone Pictures for inviting my family to the advance screening
