Free Earth Day (weekend) Crafts

Happy Earth Day (weekend) My Springfield Mommy Readers!! We are happy to share with you some craft ideas to do with your kids! These ideas are courtesy of Allkidscraft.com

Allkidscrafts.com provides weekly-themed packets filled with crafts, games, books, snacks to create, and links all related to that week's theme. The packets, or e-ventures, are emailed directly to you and the audience is for children up to age 6 or so (although many of their crafts, especially the Earth Week ones, are for kids of all ages). Their site also includes over 100 professionally created craft templates in a user-friendly searchable format with more crafts added weekly.

Home Depot: Free Kids' Workshops

Home Depot is having their free Kids' Workshop Saturday, May 1st from 9 AM to Noon. The project is a Picket Fence Planter.

Home Depot is also having their free Kids' Workshop Saturday, June 5th from 9 AM to Noon. The project is a Soccer Game.

There is no sign-up needed for these workshops. These hands-on workshops include the kits to complete the projects, Home Depot kids' apron, and achievement pin for each child that participates! What a fun way to spend time with the kids! The classes are designed for kids ages 5-12.

On March 28th, 2009 Benld Elementary suffered a tragic event, leaving over 700 students without a school. For those who do not know, Benld is located in Macoupin County, apx 45 miles south of Springfield.

Without any warning mine subsidence took the school forcing it to be condemned. The walls and floors in the school have cracked and are still sinking and causing the building to torn apart at all ends.

While the school system has been able to relocate students to Gillespie and place them in temporary modular classrooms the students need a place they can call their own.

The community has been working together to find land and rebuild. Which is where you come in. Pepsi is giving $250,000 to one deserving school and with your help they will be able to rebuild and have a place to call home.

Can you imagine one more deserving than Benld Elementary?
