Everything You Need To Know About Lego

No Starch Press sent me a set of "Lego Technic Idea Books" by Yoshihito Isogawa to review. This series of books is designed to inspire the imagination (through only photographs) of Lego Builders of all ages and they do just that.

*Volume 1, "Simple Machines" explores basic configurations--gears, pulleys, turntables, connectors, etc to make cranes, doors, cars, & musical instruments to name a few.

*Volume 2, "Wheeled Wonders" takes things a step further to make things that move or spin objects, haul heavy gear & rebound off things through building of gears, steering, clutch & suspension systems.

*Volume 3, "Fantastic Contraptions" teaches you to build fully operational objects--catapults, moving creatures & things powered by fans, propellers, springs, magnets & vibrations.

The first thing I noticed, when I was looking through these books, is that there are virtually no words--this is done on purpose--this is so you can use your imagination to make each project your own! The pictures are full color & easily replicated--you can clearly see what Lego parts you would need to make each project. I have to admit--I knew you could do a lot with Lego's but after reviewing these books--the possibilities simply amaze me. I am quite sure that these books will get plenty of use over the next several years as my almost 4 yr old son grows--these totally fit his personality and interests (cars, trucks, machinery & music).

I also checked out the No Starch Press website to see what else they had available. I love their slogan--"the finest in geek entertainment". They really do have something for the little bit of geek in all of us!

Thank you No Scratch Press for my review.
