Imagine your child's play box could come to life. If you think about it it already does every time your child sits down to play. I know from watching our daughter she mixes and matches all of her toys to create a world that is all her own with no rules just fun. Last week at the Disney Social Media Moms event I was able to see first hand how they have taken this concept and brought it to life with Disney Infinity.
For those who have not heard about this new concept in gaming let me tell you a little about it. First off Disney Infinity is taking video gaming to a whole new level. The first step is to get the game that works with your platform be it the Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 or PS3. Each starter pack, as they are called, comes with 3 Characters: Mr.
Incredible, Jack Sparrow, and Sulley all of who will work together to bring your child's favorite movies to life.
You can then purchase additional figures from your child's favorite story, they average around $12 each. There are also Power Disks that will be sold in blind packages, meaning you do not know which one you are purchasing until you open them. The idea behind this is simple, to get your children interacting not only with the game but also their friends in a good old fashion game of "trading" The Power Disks will be sold in sets of two and will be either round or a pentagon. Each can be stacked on top of each other creating a extra boost of energy that allows for more play and endless possibilities.
The best part is, both the Power Disks and Play Sets are not machine specific meaning that if your child has a Wii but their friend the Xbox 360 they can share pieces and since each figure has a chip inside the game your child was playing at home can be taken to a friends house without the fear of loosing anything they have earned.
So how does it work? Earlier today Disney shared an in depth look at the Monster's University Play Set
Within the Monsters University play set, gamers can
take on the role of Mike, Sulley or Randy to prank their major rivals
at Fear Tech. Avalanche Software worked closely with Pixar to develop
the look of Fear Tech’s campus, which makes
its debut in the play set. The two universities must compete to see who
has the most school spirit during the annual Fear-It Week. Key
highlights include:
·Pranks, Humor and Customization:Players
can utilize scare tactics to prank opponents and perfect the art
of sneak attacks. They can also customize their own Frat Row buildings
with a collection of colors, designs and decorations found throughout
the play set. Students in the world come in all shapes and sizes and can
be customized with wings, fangs, spikes, tails
and other accessories. Bikes can be unlocked to perform stunts, tricks
and other speedy maneuvers.
·Play Set: The Monsters University
play set adds its own specialized game play mechanics and pieces to the
Disney Infinity world, including unique gadgets such as the toilet paper
launcher, paintball launcher, foam hand
and the ability to ride on Archie the Scare Pig. These can also be
activated in Toy Box mode which will allow players to create all-new
prank challenges, build and customize worlds and much more.
·Toy Box mode: The trio of Mike, Sulley and Randy are able to interact with all of the previously revealed Disney Infinity characters from
The Incredibles, Pirates of the CaribbeanandCars to create new and exciting adventures in customized worlds.
I know that our daughter was excited about a lot at Disney nothing held her interest as much as when I showed her that we already have two figures, a Mike Wazowski and a Mr. Incredible already.
I expect Disney Infinity will be flying off the shelves when it is officially released on August 18th. I have noticed that Amazon is taking preorders as well as Walmart.
Walmart is charging $5 for the guarantee that they will have a Starter Pack for you. I am sure other game stores will be offering similar options before the release. I can honestly tell you that I have never been excited about a video game release, that has always been my husband's thing but I am starting to count down the days until I get to play Infinity. I just wish the game was released earlier into the summer and not a week before the next school year is expected to start, but then again that means I will have time to play while she is at school.
